USA Express Moving offers a full range of international moving services. We have agreements with licensed and insured movers throughout the world to ensure you receive a safe and trouble-free moving experience.

International moves are comprised of three primary services:


Containerization

The method of containerizing your shipment is often dictated by the means of transportation. The three most common methods are Lift Van, Steamship Containers, and Air Freight Containers.

Lift-Vans

  • Constructed of plywood, lift-vans are usually lined with paper and have steel straps placed around the outside to secure the lift-van.
  • Lift-vans hold about 185 to 210 cubic feet. Custom sizes can be built as necessary.
  • This method is usually most efficient if the entire shipment weighs less than 4,000 pounds.
  • Lift-vans are often also used for storage, if required, and therefore eliminates additional handling.
  • Inspection of Lift-vans during customs clearance is easy.
  • This method is preferred when the destination country lacks the capacity to handle steamship containers.

Steamship Containers

  • Steamship containers are constructed of steel and are similar to semi-truck trailers.
  • Containers are commonly available in either twenty-foot containers that hold about 1,100 cubic feet, or 40-foot units that hold about 2,200 cubic feet.
  • To efficiently use this type of container, the total shipment should be at least 800 cubic feet or about 5,000 pounds.
  • Multiple lift-vans can be placed directly inside the container.
  • Some foreign countries may not have the infrastructure to handle this type of containerization.
  • This type of container provides superior protection of your goods during shipment.

Air Freight Containers

  • Air Freight Containers are constructed multi-layered corrugated cardboard. They usually are sized between 20 and 100 cubic feet.
  • The types of items that can be shipped air freight are limited to aircraft specifications.


Means of Transportation

After your goods have been packed (whether you pack or we handle the packing) and loaded into the appropriate container, USA Express Moving will arrange door-to-door transportation. Your shipment will usually be moved by motor freight to the port of exit, but may be moved to the port by rail. Whether it is a seaport or an airport depends upon the means of transportation selected. More than one means of transportation will usually be required - either ocean or air for the longest part, plus truck or rail to and from entry and departure points.


Final Delivery

When your shipment arrives at the country of destination port final delivery must be made from the port to your new home. This delivery is handled by a local moving company affiliated with USA Express Moving. We have selected these companies to partner with based on their experience, commitment to quality, and their record of customer service. They also must be fully licensed and insured as required by the destination country.

Upon arrival, your items will be removed from the shipping container and placed in your new home. Optional unpacking and storage services are also available. Feel free to discuss your specific needs with your Sales Consultant for a trouble-free move.
